How is osmosis and diffusion not alike?
i had a hard time when i learned this too. diffusion has a fully permeable membrane whereas osmosis uses a semi-permeable membrane. so in diffusion the molecules can randomly flow through the membrane. in the end both sides end up having equal amounts of solvent and solute. in osmosis only the solvent can flow through the membrane. so the solute goes into the side with the most molecules until it's where the molecules in both sides have about the same amount of room to move around in. sorry if i confused you more. i guess it's hard to explain without a picture which is how i eventually figured it out. hope i helped. :)
