Would it be better to do away with Republicans/Democrats?

At least do away with them as the ONLY game in town. Would being a politician be more successful if it was a service (like jury duty) that someone gave for a term or two instead of their entire adult life? Does this extended period of time offered them encourage corruption, misuse and abuse of political power? We have panels (comprised of Reps/Dems) at debates that only invite their own parties.
